Minecraft?

Hey guys, it's Shyruni.

Today, I wish to speak about Minecraft.   I myself do not play the game...yet.  We will see.  However, I have a TON of friends who play it.  I have seen quite a bit of it, and would like to discuss it.

I personally congratulate the person who made this game.  They are a FREAKING GENIUS.  I'm sure he never expected this game to become what it did.  A SINGLE PERSON created Minecraft, and then it exploded.

These days, what a lot of video gamers want is customization.  They want to be able to design their characters, choose classes, have a favorite weapon, and personally affect their world.   This is why Online Games are such the rage these days: they offer everything that a video gamer wants.

The interesting thing about Minecraft is that, unlike other games, customization IS IT'S PURPOSE.  You design the world, you character, the story.  Minecraft is a basically whatever you want the game to be.  You want it to be all medieval with castles and moats?  It can be done.  You want futuristic and robotic structures?  It can be done.  You want to create a world with floating platforms like Mario?  It can be done.  Minecraft is a place where you can use your imagination to the fullest, and create structures that regularly could only be done through severe training in 3D graphic design.

At first I completely ignored the game.  The graphics looked terrible, and it looked boring.  But getting curious, I took a deeper look into it.  I went to the website itself to get info.  I am not lying when I say this.  They had a number count for who all had registered and bought the game.  A PERSON REGISTERED EVERY SECOND.  THE GAME WAS BOUGHT A COUPLE TIMES EVERY MINUTE.  I almost dropped my jaw.  When ANYTHING sells that fast and is a video game...it HAS to be good.

Having took a deeper look into it, I found that the graphics being bad actually was a good thing!  It gives the game it's own special feeling.  Like Dragon Quest's different art style, and stuff like that, Minecraft's bad graphics actually creates it's own unique style.

I regret looking so down at this game before, as now I see that it's concept is genius.  It's still a question or not whether I'm going to get it, but the idea itself is a revolutionary idea. Cheers, Markus Person.  You have done well.
