Selling the News

Read this all the way through. The song is called "Selling the News" by Switchfoot. If you can look up the song on YouTube.

Welcome to the Holy City; the silver screen
Built with a lens and a low self esteem
A teenager's plea for meaning and means
We're selling the news

See, opinions are easier to swallow than facts
The greys instead of the whites and the blacks
If you shoot it too straight it won't come back
We're selling the news

See, money speaks volumes louder than words
And virtues with wings, maybe not quite at first
But salaries are paid by the ads not the verbs
We're selling the news

See, all men are equal; all is for sale
A powerful dog has been chasing his tail
The lowest common denominator prevails
We're selling the news

I wanna believe you, I wanna believe
But everything is in-between
The fact is fiction, the fact is fiction

I wanna believe you, I wanna believe
But everything is in-between
The fact is fiction
Suspicion is the new religion

America listens as the story is told
With the eye on the truth as the story unfolds
But the ratings determine which story was sold
We're selling the news

Begging the question, mongering fears
Stroking the eyes and tickling ears
The truth is seldom just as it appears
We're selling the news

I wanna believe you, I wanna believe
But everything is in-between
The fact is fiction, the fact is fiction

I wanna believe you, I wanna believe
But everything is in-between
The fact is fiction, the fact is fiction

I can see your talking heads
On the television set
On the Internet they said
The fact is fiction

Suspicion is the new religion

Substance, oh, substance, where have you been?
You've been replaced by the masters of spin
Who make good looking books and write history in
We're selling the news

The lines start to blur; I get so confused
I get shiny new models mixed up with the blues
I get binary code mixed up with abuse
The facts are simply one option to choose

When nothing is sacred, there's nothing to lose
When nothing is sacred, all is consumed
We're still on the air, it must be the truth
We're selling the news

I wanna believe you, I wanna believe
But everything is in-between
The fact is fiction, the fact is fiction

I wanna believe you, I wanna believe
But everything is in-between
The fact is fiction, the fact is fiction

I wanna believe you, I wanna believe
But everything I see is greed
The fact is fiction

Suspicion is the new religion

It should be known that this blog post has been brewing for a while. I absolutely love this song. Why? Because it cuts to core of what is wrong with our country.

Now, I got a heavy dose of chauvinism when I was born. For those of you who don't know what chauvinism is, its a heavy bias towards one group or another. It's alot like patriotism, just it can apply to any group. For example, one could be chauvinistic towards a certain publisher or brand.

In my case, my dose of chauvinism is towards my country. The United States of America. The ideals that built this country mixed with the idea of an "American Dream" have made me into a major American chauvinist. This is truly the country that we can do anything in. A poor man with a good work ethic can become a major tycoon. Part of why Captain America is my favorite super hero is because he stand for everything America was supposed to by .

Everything America was SUPPOSED to be.

Unfortunately, America has evolved into something that it was not meant to be. America is much like Gondor. It started out as a glorious kingdom, the most powerful in the world. But, over time, due to the placement of evil, America and Gondor alike declined, became weak kingdoms full of shady business and corrupt politicians.

When nothing is sacred, there's nothing to lose
When nothing is sacred, all is consumed

This is the part of the song that truly hits home. The problem with America? Nothing is sacred. Not sex, not marriage, not life. America has taken God's greatest gifts to man and made them evil and vile. Sex? Sex isn't sacred. Purity and virgins are indecline folks. Instead of people waiting to be married to have sex, we have eleven year old girls who go to "sex parties."

Marriage? No way is marriage sacred any more. All I ever hear about is "gay rights." Don't people understand that this is wrong and perverted? We've twisted God's greatest gift into something disgusting. We've turned elves into orcs.

Life? Every day, thousands of babies are MURDERED across the planet. More young, innocent children have been killed then the total of all the casualties in The Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the Civil War, The Spanish American war, WWI, WWII, The Vietnam War, the Korean Conflict, the War on Terror and 9/11. It's sickening.

And then, when people see something abnormal and wrong, they act in ways that won't help. Lets take the Newtown shooting for example. 20 kids, 6 adults were killed by a single teenager.

So, what do we do? We propose a gun ban. Well, guess what Obama, America's had gun bans before. During the 1990's, America had a ten year ban on assault weapons. AK-47's and Uzi's especially. Maximum magazine capacity was twenty rounds.

What did it accomplish? Absolutely nothing. There was still killings. People still had guns. Unlike other goods, like cheese or bread, guns don't go away. An AK-47 can last 50 years. If somebody wants gun, they'll get a gun. Adam Lanza used guns that were lawfully purchased by his mother.

This ain't my American dream/I wanna live and die for bigger things/I'm tired of fighting for just me, this ain't my American Dream.

That's an excerpt from another song by Switchfoot, titled American dream. We as American have become numb to everything around us. Who can blame us? We were raised in a world of evil. How about in stead of enforcing a gun ban, we enforce laws against pornography? Instead of killing babies, we look for ways to help the widows and orphans? Truly, our only hope is in the swift return of Jesus Christ. I'm listening for the trumpets.
